Scope: This single privacy policy covers all of Ask This Guy's services: the website https://askthisguy.com, the application https://app.askthisguy.com, and the embeddable assistant (widget) that organisations install on their own websites. Sections 1, 2 and 7 to 9 apply to all of them; sections 3 to 6 describe each service in turn, including who is responsible for your data in each case.
Ask This Guy is published and managed by ATGU, a simplified joint-stock company (SASU) with a share capital of €2,000, registered with the Paris Trade and Companies Register under number 940 862 790 R.C.S. Paris, whose registered office is located at 200 rue de la Croix Nivert, 75015 Paris, France.
One important exception: when you interact with an Ask This Guy assistant embedded on another organisation's website (section 6), that organisation is the data controller and ATGU acts as its processor. For everything else, namely the website, the application, and our own demo assistant, ATGU is the data controller.
We do not collect any data for advertising or profiling purposes, and we set no advertising cookies. Our processing is limited to operating our services as described below: audience measurement on the website (section 3), our conversational assistant (sections 3, 4 and 6), the application and its features (section 5), and data you voluntarily provide such as a demo booking, newsletter signup, or account details.
Any data you choose to communicate to us voluntarily (for example, by email) is used solely in the context of your request.
The website uses Matomo, a self-hosted audience-measurement solution running on our own servers, configured to fall within the French data protection authority's (CNIL) consent exemption:

Demo booking (Calendly): demo scheduling is handled by Calendly, acting as a sub-processor. The Calendly widget is loaded only when you click to show the calendar, so any Calendly cookies are set only if you engage with it.
Newsletter (Brevo): newsletter signup is handled by Brevo, acting as a sub-processor. The form is loaded only when you click to show it. The data you enter (email address) is used solely to send you the newsletter; you can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email.
The website also embeds our own conversational assistant; this is described in section 4, and ATGU is the data controller for it.
This section describes how the assistant handles your data wherever you meet it, whether on our website, in the application, or as a widget on another organisation's site. (For the widget case, see also the responsibility note in section 6.) Processing happens at two tiers:
To generate responses, your messages are processed by third-party AI providers acting on our behalf (sub-processors): Mistral, OpenAI, Google (Gemini), Groq, Cerebras, Scaleway, Nebius and DeepInfra. Some may process data outside the European Union under appropriate safeguards (such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses).
The input field is free-text: we encourage you not to share sensitive data (health, opinions, etc.). You may at any time request access to your conversations or their deletion (see section 7).
The application is the product used by organisations and their members. ATGU is the data controller for the account relationship.
When you or your organisation creates an account, we process your email, name, role, language preference, your organisation, your last-connection time, and the in-app preferences you set. Invited users who have not yet registered are stored as a pending invitation (email and basic details) until they sign up. Authentication is provided by Supabase (see section 8); we set no cookies, and a session token is kept in your browser's local storage to keep you signed in.
The application lets an organisation connect its own content sources so the assistant can answer from them, for example Google Drive, Slack, Notion, SharePoint, Confluence/Jira, and FTP/SFTP servers. The organisation chooses what to connect; the content ingested may contain personal data for which the organisation is the controller. ATGU processes it on the organisation's behalf to provide the assistant. Credentials for these connections are encrypted at rest.
Conversations held inside the application are handled as described in section 4 (the assistant).
Organisations can embed an Ask This Guy assistant on their own websites. When you chat with such a widget:
Across all of our services, we use no advertising or tracking cookies. Website audience measurement runs cookielessly (section 3). The application and the widget use your browser's local storage only for strictly necessary functions: keeping you signed in, running the chat securely, remembering your language/UI preferences, and showing you your own conversation. Because these are essential to deliver the service you requested, they do not require consent. You can clear them at any time via your browser settings (this will sign you out / reset the chat). Third parties such as Calendly or Brevo set cookies only if you actively engage with them (section 3).
Retention. Audience-measurement data (Matomo) is retained for a maximum of 720 days. Conversations with the assistant are retained for a maximum of 1 year, after which they are deleted. Account data is retained for the life of your account and deleted on account closure or on request. Other data you provide (email, form) is retained for the period strictly necessary to process your request, unless there is a contrary legal obligation.
Sub-processors. In addition to the AI providers listed in section 4 (Mistral, OpenAI, Google/Gemini, Groq, Cerebras, Scaleway, Nebius, DeepInfra), we rely on: Supabase (database and authentication), Resend (transactional and follow-up email), DeepL (translation), and, for the website only, Matomo (self-hosted, section 3), Calendly and Brevo (section 3). We do not sell personal data and we do not use a payment processor.

Our services and the Matomo audience-measurement solution are hosted by a provider located in the European Union. Some data processed by the conversational assistant may be transferred outside the European Union by our AI providers (see section 4); such transfers are governed by appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
